Kim Zolciak’s real hair has always been a subject of speculation. She is often seen caressing and playing with her hair. Probably she is too proud of her signature hair! But is it real?

The star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta show is rumored to use wigs and fake hair to complement her beautiful looks. One thing that makes me believe Kim Zolciak’s hair is fake is we have not seen her make any surprising changes to her hairstyle. Generally, celebrities are known to keep trying new hairstyles. Take the example of Cheryl Cole, who recently sported a messy plait after ditching her flame-haired look within a month.

To stay in the limelight, one has to keep doing new things and guess what Kim has decided to do? She has decided to reveal her real and natural hair. Can you believe that? We will get to see Kim Zolciak’s real hair!

In one of the TV shows recently, Kim said: “I’m doing a big spread on Wednesday; it’ll be out in the couple of weeks with my real hair.” Though she didn’t name the particular magazine photo spread where her real hair will appear but she did give a hint.

I wonder how she would look in her new avatar. A few months back there was news that Kim had lost all her natural hair because she was diagnosed with cancer. It was later on confirmed that her weight loss and hair loss was attributed to her sickness. I guess, since then she has been using those blonde hair wigs which do not require hair shears for maintenance.

However, the wait is soon going to be over as the world will get a glimpse of Kim Zolciak’s real hair. Kim has been doing a good job of keeping her fans on their toes and in anticipation until she reveals her natural hair. Good going Kim. But don’t make us wait too long.

Beehive hairstyle is one of the most desired women’s hairstyles today. Everyone has been scrambling to get a new look for the season and the regular hair updos or colored hair are out as people want something new and trendy and hence we are seeing the return of retro hairstyles.

The Beehive hairstyle is a woman’s hairstyle that resembles a beehive; it is also known as the B-52. This style was highly popular throughout the 1960s, particularly in the United States and other Western countries. Celebrities like Christina Aguilera and Amy Winehouse have also sported this hairdo and have received much appreciation for their celebrity hairstyle.

This style works best on hair that isn’t squeaky-clean. I researched on how to achieve a Beehive and thought of sharing the simple process which does not require many hair shears. So here’s the simple process to get a Beehive:

  1. Separate the hair into two sections by combing a part from one ear around to the other in a straight line. Take the top section and, using a fine-toothed tail comb, backcomb from the front to the back of the crown in chunks of about 3 inches wide, from root to tip.
  2. Flip the top section of backcombed hair forward and secure it to one side with a clip. Then, begin to backcomb through the bottom layers in the same way for creating texture and keeping the beehive secure.
  3. Take a bristle brush and using just the tip; gently brush the surface of the hair downwards from the crown. The aim is to smooth over the top layer of backcombed hair, not brush it out completely – you want to keep the “nestiness”
  4. Pull all the hair down towards the nape of the neck, as if to put it in a low ponytail. Slide all of the hair over to the right and secure it with a vertical row of grips.
  5. Take the hair from the right-hand side and twist it to the left and towards the crown, creating an upwards roll in one movement.
  6. Tease and define the crown by pulling away random strands of hair with your fingers. Finally, spritz with a malleable hairspray to get a perfect Beehive hairstyle.

African American hairstyles have been very famous in the fashion industry because of Tyra Banks. Gosh, she looks nice with that hair which probably is original. We are really not concerned with the originality of her hair but Chris Rock is!

Yes I am talking about the comedian actor – Chris Rock who has been so inspired by the African American hairstyles that he has made a movie about them! Titled ‘Good Hair,’ the movie hits theaters this Friday and takes a look at the role hair, hairstyles and everyone in the cosmetology industry play in the lives of African Americans.

So what inspired this comedian to make a movie that deals with hair salons, hairstylists, hairdressing shears, etc.? Well, the man himself says that he was highly inspired by following the Bronner Bros. Hair Show during his early days in the 1990s. But when his daughters complained to him about their bad appearance and hairstyle, Chris became more serious about the subject and decided to explore it. He says that unlike white women who are concerned with weight and age issues, black women are very cautious about their hair. That’s an interesting fact by the way!

Though it’s a new concept, I do not know how much appreciation the audience will give to Good Hair. In fact, problems have already begun after Chris was sued by another filmmaker for stealing her idea about African American hairstyles.

Good Hair features some popular faces in the industry such as Maya Angelou, Nia Long, Ice-T, Raven Symone, Salt ‘n Pepa and Eve. The movie showcases many different aspects of the industry which are no laughing matter. But the most important thing which the viewer will walk away with from the whole story is that the billion-dollar hair business is mostly being funded by black people. People are so passionate about their African American hairstyles that they end up spending a lot of money.

So what are your plans for this Friday? Are you going to watch Good Hair or prefer relaxing in a salon?

It is exactly one month that we have to wait for the winners of Canada’s most prestigious hairstylist awards. The Canadian Hairstylist of the Year Awards — the Contessas — are Canada’s longest-running and most prestigious awards honoring excellence and creativity in salons and among salon professionals across Canada.

Founded in 1988, the Contessas are produced by Salon Communications Inc, the owner of industry publication Salon Magazine. The Contessas invite licensed hair, nail and makeup professionals to compete in 24 categories, 22 of which are photography-based and include the new Master Colorist category.

The best part of these unique hairstyling awards is that the identities of each entrant remain anonymous as the judges evaluate each submission by forming a “blind” panel of independent experts. All submissions are evaluated on originality, creativity, fashion appeal, model suitability and technical execution. Also, the quality of photography, makeup and wardrobe are given importance.

I am sure that the finalists for The Contessas would be eagerly waiting for the annual Contessa gala, when the winners would be announced.

It goes without saying that such awards and recognition play a motivating role for the numerous hairstylists in this industry. To be even nominated for these awards is an honor for all those who have embraced cosmetology education and worked hard to succeed in this field.

The standards set by Contessa winners contribute to the ongoing betterment of the Canadian beauty industry. The winners would be announced on November 1, 2009 at The Sheraton Centre during the annual Contessa Gala.
