I am a female with hair just past my shoulders. It is getting a little thick at the moment but doesn't really need a full trim. If I used thinning scissors on my own hair what is the chance of it looking reasonable afterwards?!
I wouldn't reccomend it because you may cut too much off and make it too thin.
It is always best to go to a beauty salon…pay a few dollars and have the professional touch applied to your beautiful hair:)

If you do it carefully then it can work. You need to stay away from the top layers though. From above your ears around your haed clip the hair up. Then only thinning from the middle of the hair down you can do it amall sections at a time. JUst don't go chonking it do it in small sections on dry hair so you can be sure to not thin it too much.Make sure you only thin after about 3 inches from the root to avoid prickly and frizzy hairs from sticking out.

Do you have any experience doing it yourself? It's so hard to see the back of your hair with a mirror, as everything is reverse.
If you are trying to save money, see if there is a Beauty College close and let one of them do it.

There is no stopping you but its not the best idea. Even with a mirror its hard to see the back of your own head properly. If you mess it up, it could take you weeks or months to grow it out, all to save a few bucks. At the very least, go to a college or cheap hair salon.
